Robert “Bobby” Calhoun Love, 75, the son of Mary and Quincy Love, went to be with the Lord on December 29, 2019 after a brief fight with cancer. Bobby was born in Los Angeles California on June 13, 1944. He was a loving grandfather, father, and loyal friend to all who knew him.

He graduated from Huntsville High School and then attended The University of the South at Sewanee. He served in Vietnam with the 3/5th Cavalry, 9th Infantry Division during the Tet Offensive, and married Lucille Thompson in 1976.

He is survived by his two loving sons, Robby and wife, Caroline, Billy and wife, Deborah; and grandson, Alasdair; their mother, Lucille; sisters, Linda and Julia; and brother, Bill.

Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Laughlin Service Funeral Home in Huntsville. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Maple Hill Cemetery, with a reception following at Saint Charles Anglican Church in Huntsville.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made in Bobby Love's name to the American Legion in Huntsville post 237.

Sorry to learn of Bobby's passing. Bobby and I go way back. We were both in the same carpool on elementary school. I always found Bobby to be a friend.  He will be missed.

Damn it, Bobby, I wish you could have answered the phone. I knew this wild boy going on 60 years from HHS through Sewanee and beyond, all the way through our reunions. We had more than our share of crazy times. I wish I had kept calling. I will miss him greatly.

We will all miss Bobby. At reunion functions, he had a special gift of treating everyone as an important, special friend. I remember him telling me he was spending a lot of time working on an old house his son owned. I hope he had the satisfaction of successfully completing all the tasks he worked on.
