Ronald Derrick Cope

Feb. 29, 1944 - Feb. 24, 2017 Ronald Derrick Cope, a pharmacist and sixth-generation Huntsvillian who was known and loved by all who knew him, died Feb. 24 after a short illness. A leap year baby born Feb. 29, 1944, he was 72. Ronald graduated from Huntsville High School in 1962, and was a 1966 graduate of the University of Alabama, where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He received a Master's Degree from the Samford University School of Pharmacy in 1968, and served for many years as President of the Huntsville-Madison County Pharmaceutical Society. The U.S. Department of the Army awarded him multiple Commanders' Awards for Civilian Service. Preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Allene Cope of Huntsville. He is survived by his wife, Susan Morring Cope; a daughter, Austin Cope Mann and her husband Chris Mann, Marietta, Georgia; three sons, Ronald Derrick Cope Jr. and his wife Kelly Cope, Shanghai China; Benjamin Allen Cope and his wife Dana Cope, Paris, Texas; U.S. Army Maj. Robert Daniel Cope and his wife Vitallia Cope, Germany; a stepson Thomas William Eilerman, Canton, Georgia; 13 grandchildren, Finlay, Grace and Collins Mann; Tres and Jackson Cope; Kevin and Skyler Reily and Ryan Reily-Cope; Stephan, Demi, Lola and Savely Cope, and Kaitlin Eilerman; two great-grandsons, Aidan and Talin Reily; a brother, Glenn Cope and his wife Ann, and a sister, Susan Cope Spaulding. Visitation will be at Laughlin Service Funeral Home on Monday Feb 27, 2017, at 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., with graveside service to follow officiated by the Reverend Dr. Glenn Conner at 2 p.m. at Maple Hill Cemetery. Ronald will always be remembered from our HHS days. His passing is a great loss for our dwindling class. My dad always spoke hightly of Ronald from his connection at Whitesburg Propst Drugstore.
