From David Hardwich in response to a question from Max Newby asking if Joe died in Vietnam.

No, Joe Van made it all the way through Vietnam with flying colors.

Joe earned so many Medals;t he had a cigar box full.  The cigar box was so full the lid on the box wouldn't close!

Joe was something SPECIAL.

He became a diver for the State - mostly inspecting bridges & lived just south of Montgomery for many years. 

About fifteen years ago (+or-)  Joe had one of his low blood sugar attacks while on a deep sea dive down onto a sunken ship in the Gulf and drowned.

He was truly unique & to this day, I truly miss JOE.
